Lost but not forgotten...

This scarf in progress was lost to me when I moved from California to Texas in 2009 and I was nearly prepared to chalk it off as a win for the chaos of the universe, until I found it in November.  It was a nice low brain power project for the holidays while transfixed by the magic of Showtime original series.  (The whole family needed to get caught up on Dexter and was transfixed by Homeland.)  I was glad to have rescued and finished this project and am thrilled every time the recipient wears it while interpreting well logs.

Knitting Experiments

The same basic pattern and a different yarn produces a unique solution.  Here is a scarf knitted again with the vine lace motif from Barbara Walker, but this time with some worsted weight superwash I spun and proportionally smaller needles.  The result is a far less drapey, almost herringbone texture.  And the experiment is over because I am sick to death of that pattern.

Lightly Blocking

I have finished the Citron.  It was so boring and painful to knit.   It was just row after row of stockinette with intermittent ruffle sections containing an exponentially larger number of stitches to slog through.  Blech.  Never again.  So say we all.

Yes, Blocking Works Wonders

The scarf now passes my test for giftworthiness, I want to keep it.  This lacy, girly, useless scarf will be sent off to a lady soldier in Afghanistan as soon as I get my act together.

Scarf In Progress

This  bad boy is currently weighing in at 1.5 balls of Rowan Damask.  I'm a bit concerned about the finished product because the yarn loops that are intended to look graceful and lacy keep catching on my fingers and other ungainly protuberances, resulting in a pulled out, shaggy looking mess.  Maybe with blocking...  we shal see.

Pirate King Skinny Scarf

Ahoy mateys! I finally decided on a good project for the knit picks Imagination hand paint sock yarn, pirate king colorway... Argh, these chevron seas be mighty wavy, but oh so boring to knit.

Scarf for the Doctor

Dr. Patrick found himself colder than expected after the move from LA to Boston/Cambridge, so I knitted him a scarf. Very Ivy League... yet retaining just a hint of the good 'ole Scarlet and Gray!

Hooded Scarf

It still needs to be blocked... Remind me to do that before I leave Ohio.

The Moebius Electric

The colors of this Noro sock yarn are so bright, every time I hit the blue stripe, I yelled "Electric Company!!!!" Why? Because I can. (nod to the intrepid if not obstinate Evelyn)
I am currently wearing the lovely scarf to cover a burrito drip stain on my brand new shirt.

Boteh Scarf

I just finished this Boteh scarf from the Spring 2007 issue of Interweave Crochet. The pattern was incredibly simple, and really worked well with the Noro sock yarn. The color changes were almost the same size as one motif, lending the definite impression it was way more work than it actually was.
(Picture taken up by the Music Center on the UCSC campus, a belated birthday present for Linda...)

Neckwarmer

I'm not sure if it's cool or lame. I wish Crowe was here for a consult.

Queen Anne's Lace Scarf

This is a scarf pattern I was testing for MK Carroll. The original pattern was written for one of my absolute favorite ever yarns, blue sky alpaca cotton... but I have such a stash now it seemed silly to go out and purchase more yarn. So I made it instead with lion barnd color waves. The boucle yarn makes the stitch definition hard to see and the end result looks almost felted. Kind of cool...

Oh Yeah!

This is quite possibly the most frivolous and impractical thing I have yet to crochet. I simply cannot resist the Trendsetter Aura aka “Easter Grass” yarn. This skein is the exact same color as grape kool aid and there was no way to silence the kool aid man’s reply to the constant rhetorical fibre query, “do I need this?”

Hopefully the recipient of this scarf is as easily amused as I am.

Snarf

This is a simple creation from the 2 buck bucket at Swift Stitch. The yarn is a viscose rayon blend and drapes with a good slippery heft. It's specked with mettalic glitter thread and looks really nice after sundown. It's long enough for headband, scarf, or belt...
