Socks for Bev

I have quite a bit of trouble with second sock syndrome (SSS), the inability to soldier on and complete the mate once sock number one has been knitted.  Only very special people receive two sock gifts from me.  Bev* is the current record holder, with two pair.

*Bev is my mom.

Banana Slug Socks

This is my first attempt at 2-at-a-time socks, I don't think I like it. I prefer double pointed needles, I get nasty laddering with circs as you can see above... These are for me though, so I'm not being too picky.

Fibonacci is Finished!

I finally finished these "Fibonacci's Rib" socks for the Sneller. I'm afraid they won't fit, and even if they do, they'll wear through too quickly. We'll just have to wait and see.

PhD socks

These socks have been finished, but embargoed for release until I got my act together and mailed them to the recipient. She finished her PhD in geology at OSU, so obviously I had to knit some scarlet and gray socks. I imagine she will wear them while checking the football scores from her new office in Auckland, NZ.

Socks for Me!

Craftily speaking, I'm now working fully on Christmas projects, so most of my finished objects are going to be embargoed from here on out. But there are a few things either for me or people who don't check my bliggety blog that I can leak.
This is the first pair of socks I'm making for myself. I started once before at a much tighter gauge (#0's) and wasn't sure I liked the yarn. But this incarnation on # 3's is delightfully stripey. So far it's a tad big, but I'm hoping for some shrinkage in the wash. Maybe I can get them done in time for job interviews...
PS (Turns out, it's kind of tricky to take a picture of one's own foot.)

Fibonacci's Rib

I've come up with this sock cuff treatment that turned out pretty well and have decided to name Fibonacci's rib. It's alternating intervals of stockinette stitch and offset 3x3 rib that follow the Fibonacci sequence. I worked these toe up, but just switch the order if you're going cuff down. It's the perfect soft touch of geekiness that the wearer may not even notice.

Round 1: 1 round of 3x3 rib, starting with purl 3
Round 2: 1 round stockinette stitch
Round 3-4: 2 rounds of 3x3 rib, starting with knit 3
Round 5-7: 3 rounds stockinette stitch
Round 8-12: 5 rounds of 3x3 rib, starting with purl 3
Round 13-20: 8 rounds of stockinette stitch
Round 21-33: 13 rounds of 3x3 rib, starting with knit 3

Mom Socks

These are my first ever pair of grown-up socks made with eensy yarn and tiny DPNs. The yarn is KnitPicks Felici and it was awesome.

Finished

The first and last pair of socks I will ever crochet. It just doesn't make sense with a non-stretchy fabric.

Wall of WIP's

I’m developing a strange new habit as my living space increasingly morphs into semi-discrete piles of yarn, clothes, and books. Without really noticing how it happened, I did find today there are unfinished projects multiplying on my walls. Attached with simple straight pins they are protected from dirt and crumbs and absentmindedness. Maybe I’ll keep it up.

Anyway, this is one such wall breeder. It’s 1.5 pair of socks that I started last summer for a friend in the Peace Corps. Maybe I’ll finish them before she gets back to the US.
