Gun Sock in prep

I'm going with knitpicks Wool of the Andes for this project. It was economical and beautiful. I swatched a range of stripe variations and simple colorwork before settling on the 1x1 rows of scarlet and gray. I was afraid anything with floats could catch the rifle on the inside of the bag/sock, and there were gaps with bigger stripes. This is nice and simple.

Moebius Experiment

I am not obsessed with Cat Bordhi, but I do certainly enjoy exploring certain mathematical and sock-ical elements of knitting with her assistance. This time I took advantage of the knitpicks 40% off book sale and got her two magical knitting books. For my first experiment, I am playing with the simplest moebius scarf, which I must admit is just fascinating. I only wish I had the unlimited financial resources to buy a large range of 60" circular needles.

Felting!

I was attempting to crochet this bowl for a christmas gift while my broken thumb was imprisoned in the horrible splint. I decided that felting would remove pretty much any defect from my pained and irregular stitches. It's only been through one wash cycle so far and will indeed require more.

Rifle Cozy

When I can knit again, I have to catch up on Christmas crafting. First on the list, a rifle cozy or "gun sock" for my Dad. See a commercial version available here.

Doesn't that just sound like a delightfully odd thing to knit? I'm thinking scarlet and gray stripes. OK, nobody tell him. He doesn't know about the rifle either.

Sockeye Salmon Pattern

You may or may not remember the sockeye salmon I knitted awhile back. Well, I was testing the pattern for the intrepid knitter/geologist/fisher lady Christie Rowe. It is now available for purchase so you too can make your very own!

Every cent from the sale of this pattern is donated to the Cordova District Fishermen United’s Scholarship Fund (www.cdfu.org) to support the education of fishermen and their families.
Purchase the pattern here through the Ravelry pattern download store.

I can't even twiddle...

so you can forget about knitting. I have tried crocheting sans two opposable digits, but it was a wholly uncomfortable experience.

Khristine at the Swift Stitch paid me for making a store sample item, so I went on a shopping spree today! You'll just be getting pictures of yarn until the bones mend.

Dish towels

Before I broke my stupid thumb in a barfight (sic), I decided to knit one of my grandmas dishtowels for x-mas. Here's one of them.

Lady Cancer Awareness Month

I overdyed this merino sport yarn in honor of what I am calling lady cancer awareness month. Technically, it's breast cancer awareness month, but I feel it's appropriate to include all the lady bits. I didn't even know that September was ovarian cancer awareness month! We shouldn't forget cervical cancer or uterine cancer either! So be aware, get checked, and ask questions people.
