Haha! That happened in my office in HI - we had to replace the copier. I didn't get a shawl out of it either (granted, knitted objects are probably of limited use there, but still!). You're a good work mate :)
I got lucky, at least it wasn't broken. I did have to take a walk of shame down the hallway and explain to every one where the "burning smell" was coming from.
