that happened to me recently too. with a very expensive steel needle. luckily now there are cheap chinese needles floating around SA - bamboo double points, 80cm (for SA baby blanket): R8. at current exchange, that is less than $1. yippeee! how many/ what sizes you want??? I'll be home soon.
This was an el cheapo ebay one.
I have a bunch of the cheap chinese DPN's that I couldn't live without!!! Just bring yourself, I'm lonely.
